How to use the RF Wavelength & Antenna Calculator

How it works

Wavelength is the speed of propagation divided by frequency. The calculator derives the full wavelength and common half-wave and quarter-wave element lengths, then applies the chosen velocity factor.

Example: At 433.92 MHz, the free-space wavelength is roughly 0.691 m. A quarter wavelength is about 17.3 cm before practical construction and end-effect adjustments.

What to keep in mind

A calculated antenna length is a starting point. Element diameter, nearby materials, ground plane, insulation, end effects and installation environment can shift resonance. Confirm the finished antenna with suitable test equipment.

Use 1.00 for free space. Cables and insulated conductors have lower factors specified by their manufacturer.

Why might the finished antenna need trimming?

Physical construction and surroundings change its electrical length, so practical tuning is normally required.
